HELP gets 2 School-going girls rescued & 1 trafficker arrested

A woman was arrested in Guntur for having pushed her two minor granddaughters into prostitution. She said that she was earning income by forcing the girls into prostitution for survival. The details of the rescue operation are as follows:

HELP identified one Pushpa of Guntur town, who traffics minor girls for commercial sexual exploitation. One of the volunteers of HELP then called her over phone and introduced himself as a customer, asking her for two minor girls. She agreed and the price was fixed at Rs.25,000. She was directed to bring the girls on the 14th of Sep. 2010 to Bollywood theatre area of Guntur.

Meanwhile, HELP shared this information with the local police and the Media. The police conducted decoy operation with the tip Off from HELP. When the woman arrived there with the girls, she was immediately arrested and the two girls were rescued. It was shocking to learn that the two girl victims were her own granddaughters, of who the elder girl is 15 years old and the younger is 14 years old. They are looked after by their maternal grandmother as their parents are no more. They are studying 9th Class and 8th Class respectively. The police could obtain the whereabouts of 4 other traffickers, who are expected to be arrested very shortly.

The girls will be presented before the CWC. After the medical examination, the girls will be sheltered at HELP Home, located at Machavaram in Prakasam District, where they will be counseled and encouraged to continue their schooling.
